Programme Details
Eligibility and Requirements
Attendance: Must attend 6 x 2-hour volunteer sessions over an 6-month period.
Language Skills: Must be bi-lingual to ensure effective communication with a diverse group of volunteers.
Commitment: Must attend one session of the Conservation Volunteers NZ migrant programme volunteer session (and/or Pupuke Birdsong perhaps) to broaden knowledge and experience.
Training Components
Participants will receive training in the following areas:
Health & Safety: Ensuring a safe working environment for all volunteers.
Pest Plant Identification: Learning to identify and manage invasive plant species.
Native Plant Identification: Recognizing and understanding the importance of native flora.
Restoration Methods:
Cut & Paste Technique: Effective methods for controlling invasive plants.
Composting Weed Sacks: Sustainable disposal of weed material.
Grid-Searching: Systematic approach to weed control.
Planting Techniques: Best practices for planting native species.
Planting Site Maintenance: Ongoing care and management of planting sites.
First Aid Training: Participants will be required to attend a FREE one-day course on First-Aid, facilitated by Auckland Council.
Volunteer Sessions: Practical, hands-on training during the 6 x 2-hour sessions.
Assessment: Continuous assessment by Deborah (RHB) and Frank Sun (Long Bay Chinese Association) throughout the course to ensure participants meet the programme’s standards.
