Predator Control Officer – Community-Based

Contract role | Flexible hours

Restore Hibiscus & Bays (RHB) is seeking a motivated and community-focused Predator Control Officer – Community-Based to support and grow predator control efforts across the Hibiscus Coast and East Coast Bays.

This role works closely with volunteers, community groups, and partner organisations to ensure predator control is safe, effective, well-coordinated, and delivering strong outcomes for native biodiversity.

About the Role
The Predator Control Officer is responsible for overseeing RHB’s community-based predator control programme. You’ll support volunteers, manage predator control equipment and bait distribution, maintain accurate monitoring and reporting, and help plan future predator control needs to align with funding and strategy.

This is a hands-on, field-based role with a strong community engagement focus.

Key Responsibilities
– Coordinate community-based predator control activities, including traps, bait stations, and monitoring
– Support, train, and engage volunteers in safe and effective predator control practices
– Ensure predator control activity is accurately recorded using RHB systems (e.g. TrapNZ and RestoreHub)
– Oversee installation, servicing, and maintenance of predator control devices
– Manage the RHB community tool shed, including stock levels and equipment tracking
– Monitor predator control effectiveness and contribute to regular reporting and planning
– Work collaboratively with RHB staff, community groups, and partner organisations
– Ensure all activities comply with health and safety requirements

About You
You’ll be someone who enjoys working with people, values community-led conservation, and is comfortable balancing practical fieldwork with organisation and reporting.

You will ideally bring:
– Experience or strong interest in predator control and ecological restoration
– Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
– A proactive, self-motivated approach and ability to work independently
– Good organisational skills and attention to detail
– Confidence using digital tools (e.g. TrapNZ, RestoreHub, WhatsApp, email)
– A sound understanding of health and safety in outdoor or field-based work
– Comfort working alone in bush or reserve environments when required

Working Conditions

– Flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
– Field-based work across multiple sites in the Hibiscus Coast and East Coast Bays
– Some physical work and manual handling involved
